This is the Most Alarming Legislation To-Date
The RESTRICT ACT will utterly eliminate the internet and the first amendment.
As listeners of The Rational Apprentice Podcast are well aware, I try at all times to stay away from politics as it is, by definition, the antithesis of science and truth. Unfortunately, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain that standard as more and more aspects of life become somehow politicized each day.
This subject, however, needs calling out immediately as I believe it to be the single greatest threat to the concepts of liberty, as proposed by the State, to date.
If you have not yet heard of it, there is a new bill in the US Senate entitled the “RESTRICT Act” which is advertised as another best-effort attempt by our benevolent government to protect each one of us from bad actors and bad information. This is what they came up with for the supposed Tik-Tok ban.
If you raised an eyebrow at the Biden Administration’s “Disinformation Governance Board,” this takes that concept and turns it up, past 11, all the way to 100.
Analysis of this proposed act has already been done by, what I consider to be, reliable sources, so there is no real reason for me to re-hash the work they have done. What I will do is lead you to those sources so that you can read the act, read and/or listen to the analysis, and determine for yourself if my alarm is justified.
First we have a set of tweets put out by the Mises Caucus (which you can read in full without having a twitter account).
Next, we have an analysis by Ron Paul and Daniel McAdams at the Liberty Report.
Last, I offer another analysis by StyxHexenhammer who goes through the Mises Caucus tweets, giving his analysis as he goes.
No doubt there will be more coverage of this coming in the next few days but I doubt that coverage will come from the corporate media, who doubtless, are all for this bill. I ask you to share this email with anyone who still refuses to get their information from alternate sources.
I would also like to focus your attention to the list of those members of the Senate who proudly list themselves as the proposers of this draconian monstrosity and ask you to note that this bill is “bi-partisan,” as though you can have bi-partisanship within a uni-party structure.
